String Theory

Holly is a co-founder/director of the collaborative ensemble String Theory. String Theory is a hybrid performance ensemble featuring musicians and dancers and sonic sculpture. Giant site-specific invented instruments provide the landscape for the performances to unfold. Their instruments have extended up to 800 feet transforming architecture in to giant musical instruments. The ensemble was founded by instrument designer/builder and composer, Luke Rothschild; choreographer/director, Holly Rothschild; and cellist, composer, Joseph Harvey.

String Theory performs throughout the US and abroad. They performed at the 2010 TED conference, The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, the 2006 Grammy's, Taste 3 in Napa, The 2008 World Festival of Sacred Music, The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The 2008 Festival Mozaic in San Luis Obispo, for the Opening Festivities of The Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC, and an Asian Tour in 2007.

String Theory accompanies their long string Harps with cello, Theremin, violin, saxophone, bass, guitar, keys, saw, accordion, tablas, flute, samples, a myriad of exotic and invented percussion, and vocals. Their music ranges from 15th century Renaissance to rock, electronica, and experimental. Contemporary dance is woven into the performance incorporating the large-scale instruments and the dynamic landscape that is created by the installations.

String Theory has many different types of performances and workshops available. Performances range from their evening length theatrical production "14 Lengths of Desire", to concert format performances with dance installations woven into the work. String Theory has interactive kids performances. The ensemble teaches workshops and performance residencies to professional level artists as well as community centers, kids and seniors.
